Frequently Asked Questions

Carnival?
The Longfellow Carnival has been a long-running annual PTO fundraising event. Held indoors in February, it is a great way for families to come together for fun during the winter months.

What happens?
Games, music, food, raffle and cake walk and more! Families are encouraged to attend together. All activities will take place inside the school.

Tickets - to presale or not
Purchasing Carnival tickets during the presale is a great way to save time and money. This pre-sale offers special package pricing in addition to discounted a la carte tickets. All presale purchases will be available at the Carnival at the will call table.

Unlimited games wristbands are $10 per child both presale and at the door. If you are purchasing a package and need additional wristbands, simply add the number you need through the a la carte option.

Each raffle ticket equals one entry for the item chosen. Items will be displayed in the cafeteria. Simply place a raffle ticket in the corresponding bag. Chances of winning depends on the number of entries.

Raffle tickets and Split the Pot tickets require you to write your last name and phone number on the back of the ticket. If you buy pre-sale, we print labels with your name and number for you! Save yourself literal gobs of time by purchasing in advance! You do not need to be present to win. Winners will be notified by text or phone call.

Tickets will be available for purchase at the Carnival on the day of the event. Cash and credit cards are accepted.

Cake Walk?

Everyone loves the cake walk! How is it played?

A set number of participants walks in a circle of taped numbers on the floor while music plays. When the music stops a lucky winner is identified. The winner then chooses a delicious treat from the donated baked goods table.

Donated cakes?

Yes, baking the cakes is part of the fun of the cake walk! Families are encouraged to bake at least one tasty treat for the carnival. Cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, brownies, muffins, you name it. This is not a Cake Boss reality show, just a bunch of kids excited to decorate cakes in an elementary school-appropriate way. No pressure! Your child's masterpiece will be devoured.

Rules for donated cakes?

ALL BAKED GOODS MUST BE NUT FREE
There will be no way to return plates or pans. Please keep this in mind.
Details outlining where and when to bring your donation will, be posted here - stay tuned!

Oh geez, I don't bake.

That's cool, not everyone does. But if you'd like to still support this happy tradition, please make a Cake Donation online. The Carnival team will find someone to bake or buy a cake in your honor.

Games
Longfellow owns a few games and rents other games appropriate for our elementary student body. The kids will love it.

How can I help?
We're so glad you asked! In its heyday, the Carnival required about 200 volunteers to support a day of fun. Moms, dads, grandparents, all are welcome, especially Longfellow alumni. If you have a big brother or sister at home, bring them along to help with games! Check the Volunteer page for shifts needed the evening before as well as the day of.

Volunteers will help with the following:
  • Setup and tear down
  • Games
  • Food (adults only)
  • Sweets Walk (and MC)
