Join us at the Portrait of a Graduate meeting at Longfellow on 2/28. The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will be “open house” style, meaning you can come for 15 minutes or stay the whole time—whatever works best for you.During the event, staff and families will have the opportunity to walk around, learn about our draft Portrait, and provide feedback on definitions and learning experiences. We’ll also have some kid-friendly activities for students and pizza for everyone! What's this about? Why is this important for me to pay attention to? The District is gathering information from village families and community members about what we want to see in our children when they graduate from 8th grade. This includes what information they'll know, but also what academic, social, and emotional skills they'll have. The district will be using this "portrait" as their goal and use it to set priorities. This ultimately means they will be aligning what gets taught and what gets funded, to this vision. The District 97 Board of Education is seeking community members who are interested in offering their expertise and guidance to support the success of our schools. You can make a difference by volunteering to serve on one of the district's board committees: Interested individuals who would like to be considered for membership are asked to complete a brief form. Applications will continue to be received and reviewed until the vacancies are filled. Selected applicants will be contacted directly.
Candidates can access additional information about board committees by visiting https://www.op97.org/boe/committees. If you have any questions about committees or the application process, please contact Board Secretary Lonya Boose at [email protected]. The Longfellow Family Garden is getting ready to plant a beautiful, pollinator-friendly, native garden next to the raised garden beds. We need your help! Please email [email protected] if you have any of the following that you are able to donate or lend to us:
